Doing Hard Stuff...Does It Actually Need To Be Hard?
How you feel when you do something hard?
And what does it take to get you started on doing something that seems hard, new, or scary?
Doing hard things is a necessary part of life. It makes us stronger and more successful. But it can also be difficult and challenging. We often have to push ourselves beyond our comfort zones to achieve our goals.
You can feel a lot of things after you do something that you thought was hard...
The feeling of accomplishment:
After doing something hard, you often feel a sense of accomplishment. This can be a great feeling and can help motivate you to keep going.
The feeling of relief:
When you finish something hard, you may also feel relief. This is because the hard task is now over, and you can relax.
The feeling of pride:
Completing a hard task can make you feel proud. You may feel like you can do anything!
The feeling of satisfaction:
Satisfaction comes from knowing that you put in your best effort, and it paid off.
And here's another thing:
When you do something hard, the next time it feels easier.
When you're learning something new, or trying to master a difficult task, the first time you do it is often the hardest.
But after that, you become more used to doing it and it gets easier.
And as it gets easier, your confidence increases, as well.
And each time you do something, it helps cement a new habit.
The first time you do something new, it might feel hard, or scary, or like it's a big stretch.
But how does it feel the second time, the third time, or the thirtieth time?
If you can just get yourself going that first time, it gets much easier after that.
So, what do you have to do to get yourself activated that first time?
Do whatever self-comfort exercises you need to calm your nervous system (and if you don't have any, ask me for some).
Next, take a deep breath
And then..take that one first step.
That will carry you onward.
And here's another thought:
What if it doesn't even have to be hard?
I'm all about finding ways to make things that seem hard feel easy instead.
And that makes all the difference in the world.
If you can change how you think and feel about things, and release the uncomfortable physical feelings you get when you think things are hard, scary, or even impossible, it becomes easy to move forward.
What would you have to think or feel in order to make it easy?
If you've got one foot on the gas, but the other foot is on the brake pedal of fear, chances are that you aren't going anywhere.
And it's not so great for the engine or the brakes, either.
But if you can remove that foot from the brake, you can just take off!
It turns out that what holds us back and keeps that foot on the brake is old mental programming, established when we were younger. But it still runs in the background in our brains without our even realizing it.
This unconscious mental operating system causes you to sabotage yourself.
Make no mistake: those unconscious programs are there for a reason. At one time in your life, they helped you and made sense.
It's just that they no longer serve you and in fact they are getting in your way and holding you hostage.
But you can rewrite those old mental programs so that you can get moving on your goals and dreams.
