Stuff Happens. Expect The Unexpected - Your Emergency Plan For When Things Go Wrong (part 1)
Face it. Stuff Happens.
This week I coached people who were dealing with things that popped up unexpectedly and were afraid it would interfere with their plans for healthy eating.
- A migraine
- A death in the family
- An injury
- Fridge died
- Troubling news about a friend
Obviously, a dead refrigerator can make food prep challenging and make you have to "think outside the box." (Sorry, I couldn't help it!)
Getting sick or injured is never welcome and on top of the unpleasantness of being sick or injured, it can also make sticking with your meal plan difficult. It may make food prep harder physically. And if you have a migraine, preparing food is probably not high on the list of things you want to do.
It is normal to feel this way.
When things go wrong emotionally - a friend or family member is having problems, or YOU are having problems, or there is a death in the family, that's difficult too. It is hard to focus when you are distracted by grief.
It is normal to feel this way.
You have the distraction of your emotional distress intruding on your thoughts. It's hard to make yourself focus on things you need to do the way you usually can when things are going as usual. Your brain can only handle so many things at once.
It is normal to feel this way.
Your time may not be under your control the way it usually is.
And, of course, you may be feeling like you want to eat for comfort.
This is normal too.
The question is, what do you do about it?
Stay tuned for Part 2 tomorrow, "The Sick Day Plan"
